There was a time when the Cars franchise seemed like a natural fit for Microsoft Studios, but the company has since seen its share price fall in recent months.
And now the company is reportedly preparing to launch a new franchise, The Sims 4 Cars, which could bring back the Cars formula and expand on the original’s sci-fi world.
The Sims franchise was one of the biggest successes of the EA/DICE-owned studio, which created more than 10 billion games worldwide.
Now the studio is looking to replicate that success by expanding on a franchise that’s been around since its inception in 1999.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson told Bloomberg that the Cars sequel will be the first of many in the series, which is currently in development for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
He also said that The Sims 5 will arrive sometime next year, although no firm date has been set.
The Cars franchise has always been an Xbox-exclusive title, but Wilson noted that the game’s next-generation update is coming “soon.”
We will update this article when we know more.
